It’s important as social workers that we respect all kind of people no matter what their race, gender, sexual preference, culture or disabilities are. We are all human at the end of the day and deserve respect. Being non-judgmental is one of the number one values that a worker must remember to follow in the field of social work.
Introduction
This podcast will look at and explore how important it is to respect and be understanding of one’s culture and life style decisions. Diversity in the world today is very common; it doesn’t just deal with ones race but their social and cultural differences as well. There are certain people who thought of discrete ways of living and discrete ways of how one should look at the world. A lot of the times we find that people are discriminated and looked at funny; all because they don’t understand it or believe it makes since to live that way.

Working with clients who hold opposing views from your own culture can be difficult to do at times but the worker should openly acknowledge his or her awareness of the differences between them and the client. The worker should aggressively support, respect and be understanding to the clients view as opposed to the client. Some clients may not try or even want to be understanding to the workers culture differences. However if the client has any apprehension about the cultural differences the worker should address them immediately. It is best for them worker to study the particular culture they will be in contact with while at a particular agency. A client from a different culture may report an agencies performance if something should happen between the worker and client is offensive to the client.

What is most interesting about this podcast?
In my opinion this podcast was very interesting it talk about very important things that social workers need to be aware of especially when it comes to discrimination, and respecting ones’ culture.
What can you share with other students about this podcast?
After listening to this podcast I believe the first thing I would share with others students is how important it is to study or familiarize yourself with a clients religious background before working with them because a lot of the times you find that treatment plans you come up may not agree with the clients culture and they workers may find it to be more difficult to help a client when you know nothing about their culture and practices.
